This project involved the design and test of carriage motion controls and laser write controls for writing servo tracks on a floppy disks.

Skills Required

• The project required the design of a specialized hardware board which incorporated digital and analog circuitry and interfaced to the PC. Included in this design were programmable logic devices. The design included motor controls as well as a voice coil control system which utilizes interferometer feedback.
• The project engineer also was involved in the mechanical design of the system, selection of components and design techniques, and the interface to the PC.
